As a teacher and therapist my aim is to make Tai Chi and massage accessible to as wide a range of people as possible. I feel the key to this is adaptability, creativity and a willingness to listen to and research the needs of each individual or client group I work with.
Massage Therapies:
In addition to my regular practice, I currently make fortnightly visits to a residential home for young people with severe learning difficulties to perform aromatherapy massage. I have been working with this client group for approximately 3 years. I am also a volunteer therapist at St. Wilfrid's hospice where I give treatments to in-patients and their relatives on the ward. This has involved additional training and on-going supervision to help to address the particular requirements of working in this clinical setting.
Tai Chi:
I am a member of the Tai Chi and Chi Kung Forum for Health, an organisation of Tai Chi teachers and players with an interest in adapting their work for students with special needs of all kinds. In 2007 I completed the TCCKF's Teacher's Certificate in Tai Chi and Chi Kung for Health and attended a training day on Working with Cancer Patients and their Carers. This work helps me to meet the needs of individual students within my general classes as well as groups tailored for a specific client group.
As a Volunteer, I take a chair-based session with patients at St. Wilfrid's Day Hospice.
I currently teach a Thursday afternoon class for students with learning difficulties at care village in Walburton and a chair-adapted class for elderley residents in a Sheltered Housing complex in Chichester on behalf of the Workers' Educational Association. THESE CLASSES RE-START ON 19TH & 22ND SEPT & ARE OPEN TO OUTSIDE MEMBERS. RING CHRIS ON 01243 671806 IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME ALONG.
If you feel the client group at your residential home, group or day-centre could benefit from Tai Chi or massage, make your enquiry by phone or via the contact page.
